Technology for Today's Family

CHI2012 Workshop, May 5th or 6th 2012, Austin, Texas, USA

We invite you to participate in a workshop for researchers and practitioners interested in designing and developing technologies for families. We believe families are a unique user group that should be addressed in a holistic manner. To this end, we will conduct a one-day workshop for researchers to come together to build a community, share experiences and perspectives, and discuss the future of technologies for families.

Submissions should be written in the CHI Archive format and should be 2-4 pages long. Papers should include: a statement of interest, a summary of authors' expertise in the area of family technology design, and statement of the unique perspective the author(s) will bring to the discussion. Papers will be selected based on quality and diversity of perspectives.

Possible paper topics include, but are not limited to:

  • New theoretical perspectives on technology use in families
  • New techniques in designing for or with families
  • New technological or design approaches
  • An overview or survey, of existing technologies for families
  • An overview or survey, of design methods for creating technologies for families
  • Opinions on or experiences with the challenges of designing technologies for families

Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection to the workshop by February 3, 2012. At least one author from each accepted paper must attend the workshop.
